Unexpected Vacation

After 20 hours of traveling, and a total of 12 bags in tow, we finally touched down in Nairobi on Monday afternoon. We spent the rest of the day orienting ourselves to the new weather, culture, and food, trying to make sure we were ready for entry into SS. Our original plan was to spend the night in Nairobi, spend Tuesday getting our travel permits, and leave on Wednesday. The plan was complicated by Madaraka Day, Kenya's Independance Day, which fell on Tuesday. The SS Consulate was closed, so we got an extra day of vacation! We first decided to head over to the Elephant Nursery to check out the baby elephants (See picture above). We also drove through the National park to see any other wildlife we could, and found this giraffe blocking our way.

We are getting our travel permits today and will head out to Juba tomorrow. This is definitely a nice relaxing way to recover from school and gear up for our work in Juba. Everyone is very friendly here in Nairobi, and I'm trying to learn as much Swahili as possible. Next update should be from Juba.

Kwaheri Kwa Sasa!
